Julián Arcas is, without a doubt, one of the best guitarists of his time. The link between Sor-Aguado and Tárrega was represented by this distinguished artist who achieved maximum international recognition through the musical authorities and critics of his time.

Knowledge of the figure of Julián Arcas, as well as his guitar work, is essential. His compositions for this instrument cover different styles of his time, ranging from the popular to the symphonic, adding up to a total of 52 works, according to this research, of which and by the titles of their author, 44 are original and 8 are arrangements.

These arrangements and themes that Arcas develops with great mastery, are typical of a time when Italian influence was frequent throughout Europe. On the other hand, Arcas uses regional Spanish themes for inspiration of his works that on the guitar acquire the most original style representative of Spanish music.

The present publication is a facsimile of the original editions of 1860, and the unpublished ones are manuscripts by his student F. Tárrega.
